City of Parramatta Economic Insight Report - December 2019

  • The unemployment rate in the City of Parramatta* fell marginally in the December quarter to 4.1%. This is just below the Greater Sydney average.

  • The unemployment rate has increased by 0.1 percentage points over the year.

  • The resident labour force rose by only 524 (0.4%) in the December quarter. This represented slower growth than the previous quarter (1.8%).

  • A healthy jobs market and population growth attracts new entrants, however as more people enter the labour force, they may not all find employment quickly.

  • It is important to note that the completion and commencement of large construction projects can cause swings in unemployment rates in small areas.

*Small area labour force estimates should be viewed with a high level of  caution due to the variability involved in extrapolation of small sample sizes
